Although she might be beautiful and talented, Amber Heard wants you to know that Hollywood’s not all fun and games for an emerging actress like herself. In the September issue of NYLON Guys, the 25 year-old Austin native talked with writer Luke Goodsell about the difficulty with being taken seriously, her new TV show The Playboy Club, and why acting in horror films is weirdly empowering.
The problem with being sexy: “It’s so rare that women get to play characters at all. If you do play a character it’s because you’re not sexy- they’re mutually exclusive for some reason.”
On her character, Maureen: “She is a Playboy bunny but there’s so much more to her. I felt like I read a script that had a complex character. I saw potential for her, and I felt like I was in good hands with this team.”
Why she likes acting in horror movies: “[The genre offers] sometimes the only real platform for a young woman to act. Horror films give you the opportunity to be tough and independent and to fight, to kick, to kill, to cry.”
